Chonburi –

Multiple drivers have blamed brake failure for double road accidents in which eight vehicles were involved around an overpass in Mueang Chonburi yesterday (August 16th).

A video of the accident, with English commentary, be found here:

Emergency responders and The Pattaya News arrived on the Bypass road in Nong Maidang to find in total eight damaged vehicles on the road. Two people had suffered minor injuries.

A pickup driver involved in the accident and who was the front-facing vehicle, who declined to give his name to reporters, stated “The other vehicle in front of me immediately stopped. I immediately stopped as well and avoided hitting that driver, but the other vehicles crashed into me.”

There were three vehicles damaged in the first accident.

Another road accident was on the same road and was just meters behind the first accident and just ten minutes later. In total, five vehicles were damaged.

One of the drivers reportedly told police, “The vehicle in front of me was immediately stopped so I was unable to avoid the collision due to a sudden brake failure.”

The accidents caused traffic to be backed up for several kilometers for about an hour. Nearly every driver involved in the accident, noted police, blamed faulty brakes, and not following too closely for the accident. Police stated the accidents were under investigation to determine potential liability and legal action.
