Chonburi governor personally gives away survival bags and food to needy locals hurt by the Covid-19 crisis

Chonburi –

The Chonburi Governor Phakarathorn Teanchai personally gave survival bags and food to the needy in Mueang Chonburi this morning.

Chonburi authorities led by the Chonburi Governor Phakarathorn Teanchai gave away 700 sets of survival bags and 150 food boxes to locals in need in Mueang Chonburi. This is due to a current crisis caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus, which in an attempt to control the spread of the disease has led to strict mandates and restrictions across Chonburi, and 28 other provinces. These rules close nearly all non-essential businesses and have put tens of thousands of people out of work, with limited central government financial aid as many are so-called “informal” workers who don’t collect social security.

The Chonburi Provincial Red Cross has supported 700 sets of survival bags to locals who live in five sub-districts which are in Nong Kangkok, Na Pa, Nong Mai Dang, Klong Tamru and Huay Kapi.

Authorities have also given 150 food boxes to locals in Moo 5 in Nong Khangkok, Mueang Chonburi.

The Chonburi Governor reassured local residents that he was still fighting for the province and community and that they would work together to ensure life could return to normal and people could return to their livelihoods and jobs as soon as the situation improved.

TPN media notes that many groups of people, both Thai, and foreigners, as well as individuals, have been coming together for months, and especially since July 20th of last month when the current strict maximum control measures took effect, to help those in need. The measures, which close dine-in at restaurants, gyms, massage shops, malls, cinemas, bars, tourism attractions, and much more, show no sign of being lifted anytime soon. TPN media also adds that the measures are centralized national measures from the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and that even if the Governor wanted to ease some restrictions, he would not be able to do so on his own without CCSA approval.

Earlier today the Governor also responded to a group of massage shop owners and workers who protested at the Provincial City Hall about the closure of their businesses, asking for either the ability to open with rules or financial aid.
