Cambodian man injured from electric shock while installing electric cables in Pattaya

Pattaya –

A Cambodian worker has sustained serious injuries from an electric shock while installing underground cables at a condominium in South Pattaya.

Emergency responders were notified of the incident at 2:30 P.M. today (August 11th) at a condominium at the entrance of Soi South Pattaya 1 in Nongprue.

First response teams and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find Mr. Wit Peet, 34, a Cambodian national, sitting dazed on a power pole holding a transformer and other cables. He is a staff member of a local company that is working on moving electric cables underground and was surveying the transformer area about two stories above the ground.

He had sustained injuries from electric shock but had not fallen from his precarious perch on the power pole. The Pattaya Electricity Authorities were called to cut off electricity before emergency responders and his co-workers helped to move the injured man down to the ground. He was taken to a local hospital.

Mr. Suksan Bangrabat, 42, a witness who was nearby, told The Pattaya News, “There was an explosion before I saw Mr. Peet stuck on the power pole, dazed and in pain but cognizant and managing not to fall.”

Mr. Wattanachai Lakka, from the Pattaya Electricity Authority Office, told The Pattaya News team, “Normally when any company wants to work on a power pole they must tell us first so we can cut off electricity. This company had not informed us that they wanted to work on the power pole.”

The employer of Mr. Peet did not immediately make a statement regarding the incident, citing an ongoing investigation. The name of the company was also withheld pending further investigation.
