Chonburi continues to vaccinate people against the Covid-19 coronavirus. Three thousand people were vaccinated for their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine earlier this week.
The vaccination campaign took place at the Baan Suan Municipality.
Mrs. Yupa Witayakitina, 71, told The Pattaya News, “This is my first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. I am afraid to be vaccinated but I have to because I am at risk when going out to buy food due to my age and health. I am terrified of Covid-19, but I have to live my life and hope the vaccine will assist me with that. We cannot live in fear forever.”
The Director of the Chonburi Hospital Doctor Teera Siwadun told The Pattaya News, “Chonburi has received 3,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine recently from the central Thai government.”
“Today (Teera was speaking on July 20th) 1,000 people who are elderly, pregnant women, and people with health issues that were previously registered with the municipality have been vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine. After three to four weeks, there will be a second dose of vaccination. Sinovac is often debated furiously online, however, protects well against death and serious illness compared to not having a vaccine.” Teera concluded.
TPN media notes that Pattaya has had a low allocation of vaccines over recent weeks due to the vast majority of vaccines in Thailand being allocated to Bangkok, the center of the current outbreak. However, now that Chonburi is considered a “maximum control” area and has had hundreds of cases a day, more vaccines are likely to be allocated to Pattaya in the very near future, according to Pattaya mayor Sonthaya Khunplume. This comes as nearly daily Chonburi has more restrictions and closures ordered by the governor in an attempt to control the spread of Covid-19. However, the orders, especially around closures of outdoor spaces like parks, pools, beaches, and playgrounds, have not been popular with residents.
