Bangkok –
The Thailand Department of Transport has planned to implement control measures for all delivery boxes for motorcycles after some vehicles were seen to be attached with oversize boxes which were considered dangerous when driving.
The size of the attached delivery boxes for all motorcycles must not exceed 60 centimeters in overall width and length, according to the department regulation.
Chirute Visalachitra, Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, revealed yesterday, June 28th, that the measure was made due to the noticeable popularity of delivery food services in Thailand. However, the survey was found that most motorcycles are equipped with containers or similar attachments that are too large or too long when compared with the length of the vehicles, causing possible overload which is unsafe for driving.
If the delivery box is installed at the back of the motorcycle, the width and the length must not be more than 60 centimeters. The size can only be extended from the end of the car for not more than 30 centimeters.
The height must not exceed 70 centimeters if it is a side-attached box. The width from the left edge to the right edge must not exceed 90 centimeters. If the vehicle’s width is more than 90 centimeters, the maximum width of the attached box must not exceed 110 centimeters. The installation must be symmetrical at the center of the car and must not disturb the driver’s vision and the illumination of any lighting and signaling devices in order to ensure safety.
“Drivers and business operators in food delivery services are required to inspect and measure the delivery boxes and see whether the dimensions and installation are according to the stated requirements before they will officially become the law in the near future. The violation will be a fine of not more than 1,000 baht against violators,” the Director-General concluded.
