The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) approved of the Public Health Ministry’s decision to close all entertainment venues, pubs, bars, karaoke, and soapie parlors in 41 provinces for at least 14 days as the CCSA spokesperson introduced at the daily briefing this morning, April 8th.
According to the Public Health proposal, the closure order was considered based on two primary factors; 1.) 20 provinces with infected patients who were reportedly involved in entertainment venues in the Thonglor area, and 2.) 21 high-risk provinces with many entertainment venues.
The announcement was made on the CCSA’s social media accounts this afternoon and, according to Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, is only waiting for the Prime Minister to sign the order tomorrow morning, which he said is nearly certain to happen, stating there would be no “U-turn” in the decision. Questions asked about if alcohol would have to be banned from being sold in restaurants in affected provinces were not answered.
Additionally, questions around if there would be any financial aid or compensation for business owners and employees being shut at what is normally one of the busiest times of the year were also not answered.
The 41 provinces are Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan, Samut Songkram, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Lopburi, Nakhon Nayok, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Ranong, Chumphon, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Phuket, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Yala, Narathiwat, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphom, Udon Thani, Buriram, Loei, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Tak, Chiang Rai, and Phetchabun.
