Yesterday (October 14) the Nongprue Police arrested the prime suspect Songkran Promjan,27, from Ubon Ratchathani. A re-enactment of the shooting was conducted near a shipyard on the side of the Thung Klom – Tanman Road.
The suspect reportedly told police that he was heavily drinking alcohol with Mr. Son, the victim, before they started a verbal argument. Mr. Son allegedly used a wooden stick to hit him as he was trying to escape. The exact nature of the argument was not revealed to the press.
Songkran reportedly stated to police he picked up a handgun nearby which belongs to the owner of a chicken fighting coop nearby.
The owner, who was not named, reportedly keeps the firearm inside the chicken coop for chasing snakes and dogs away from his chickens. Songkran works at the chicken coop which is near a shipyard.
Songkran claimed to police that he just wanted to use the gun to threaten and scare Mr. Son. Mr. Son allegedly still used the wooden stick to hit him. Songkran finally fired a single gunshot at Mr. Son, claiming he was acting in self defense.
Songkran was charged with attempted homicide and carrying a firearm in public. Meanwhile, Mr. Son is now recovering at a local hospital and doctors believe that although his situation is still serious he will recover from his wound.
