Thai cabinet officially approves Emergency Decree extension for another month

National –

The mobile cabinet meeting in Rayong today has officially approved the extension of the emergency decree nationwide for another month, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said today, August 25.

The extension is going to be effective from September 1 to September 30.

The emergency decree has been in effect since last April and allows the government to restrict arrivals, follow up suspected cases of Covid-19, and impose disease control measures on all business and public activities. It also provides strict penalities for violations of the decree.

According to the statement of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan last Friday, the extension of the emergency decree has removed some aspects that affected society in a negative manner, including a curfew, domestic travel restrictions, and a ban on mass assembly, since there has not been a confirmed locally spread case in Thailand for over 90 days.

The Deputy Prime Minister also insisted that the reason for extending the decree has no relevance to mass and ongoing anti-government protests in the country but it is still mandatory for the country to properly handle the quarantine process in a national standard.
