Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected Across Thailand from June 21-26, 2024

National —

On June 21st, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department released a weather forecast for the upcoming seven days, from June 21st to 27th, 2024.

From June 21st to 26th, the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is expected to be relatively strong. Additionally, a monsoon trough will pass through the northern and northeastern regions. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area over the central South China Sea is likely to intensify and move towards Hainan Island and the Gulf of Tonkin.

This weather pattern will result in increased rainfall across Thailand, with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rain in some parts of the northern, northeastern, eastern, and southwestern regions.
The wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will be relatively strong. The Andaman Sea will experience waves 2-3 meters high, and over 3 meters high in thundershower areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves around 2 meters high, and over 2 meters high in thundershower areas.
Afterward, the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will weaken, and the monsoon trough will shift to the upper northern region, upper Laos, and towards the low-pressure area over northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin.

This weather pattern will result in reduced rainfall in Thailand, but thunderstorms and heavy rain will still occur in some areas of the northern and western southern regions.
The wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will weaken, with the upper Andaman Sea seeing waves around 2 meters high, and over 2 meters high in thundershower areas. The lower Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will have waves 1-2 meters high, and over 2 meters high in thundershower areas.
Citizens are advised to be cautious of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could cause flash floods and water runoff, especially in foothills and low-lying regions.
Sailors in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should proceed with caution and avoid sailing in thundershower areas throughout this period. Small boats in the Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving the shore from June 21st to 26th, 2024.
