Rayong-
Rayong Disease Control officials announced yesterday that all disease control staff at the U-Tapeo airport would be transferred.
This follows a recent incident that saw an Egyptian soldier who tested positive for Covid-19 break quarantine and visit a shopping mall in Rayong.
Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the Disease Control Department, said the move was nessacary to conduct a full investigation over the incident.
The personnel at the airport will be replaced with Chonburi disease control department staff. Dr. Suwanchai did not make it clear exactly where the former disease control team would be transferred. This follows an announcement by the Thai Cabinet that the Rayong Governor would also be transferred in the future, however, they stated it was not related to the Covid19 case in Rayong.
Meanwhile, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration has laid the majority of the blame for the incident on the Egyptian Embassy allegedly skirting the guidelines. The hotel where the incident took place has also closed for at least fourteen days.
