Pattaya, Thailand-
The following is our weekly column in which we ask our readers to provide their thoughts and opinions around relevant topics and problems that are newsworthy in the Pattaya area.
This week, we tackle what is a sore point for many Pattaya residents and seems to cause problems every single year. Today in particular has been a rather smoggy day for Pattaya and this is an annual problem over the “Winter” months in Thailand.
Last year was a particularly bad year and although some people seemed to hope that with significantly less traffic, tourists, polluting buses and other factors that this year would be substantially better in terms of air pollution. However, early signs seem to point that this may not be the case. It is not an easy fix of a problem and Bangkok is taking measures to ban polluting buses and large trucks during certain time periods.
However, many people state the root cause is much deeper and traces to traditional methods of burning crops, despite being highly illegal, in Thailand that causes most of the problem.
We want to hear from you either in the comments below, on our social media channels or through our email at Pattayanewseditor@gmail.com. How do we resolve this problem? What small steps could we take to better control the issue? As with every week, we look forward to your thoughts.
