A British expat and a Thai man have been arrested today in Pattaya and are accused of selling fake brand name watches.
A team of police led by Colonel Dunlayapat Taechaphonyasin of the Region 2 Investigation Police have arrested an English expat, Mr. Mark Dorey (Also goes by aliases of Mark Dorez and Mark Lillie), 44.
He was arrested at Bay Walk Residence on Pattaya Beach road at 2:00PM this afternoon.
Police have seized 12 fake brand name watches from Mr. Dorey valued at 114,000 baht.
The arrest follows police receiving a tip –off that Mr. Dorey was selling fake brand name watches on an Instagram with the account name ‘ma.rk2498’ which was connected with a WhatsApp account.
Police operated a sting operation to buy watches from him when he was finally arrested.
Mark admitted that he bought those watches from a Thai man Mr. Wiras Buaraem, 45, who he led police to.
Police immediately arrested Wiras just ten minutes after. Police seized 40 fake watches from Wiras which are valued at 23,400 baht.
Mark and Wiras are facing charges with illegally selling counterfeit items while Mark is also facing charges with working without a work permit.
A total of 52 watches were found between the two men which are valued at 137,400 baht.
