Chonburi –
A motorbike driver has been pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by multiple vehicles before at least one erupted in flames in Mueang Chonburi on Monday night (February 22nd).
The Thai Highway Police was notified of the accident at 9:00 P.M. on Motorway 7 Section 2 in the Nong Kangkok sub-district.
They and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a fire was ablaze at a car with a motorbike trapped underneath. It took about half an hour to control the fire. Several other vehicles were nearby and had suffered varying amounts of damage.
Under the car that had been ablaze, rescue workers found the body of Mr. Yongyut Yimmueang, 58, who had suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle that had been on fire, who wasn’t named, had suffered a panic attack and was unable to speak to the press.
A witness, named only as Mr. Boonkruea, 58, told associated press “The accident began when one vehicle and the motorbike driver collided together in the middle of the road. More vehicles began to crash into the original accident. It was unclear to me what exactly caused the original accident.”
“Roughly seven vehicles in total were involved in the accident, with a final vehicle seemingly causing the blaze. The original car driver (who suffered the panic attack) managed to escape from the fire, but tragically the motorbike driver was trapped and passed away.” Boonkruea concluded.
Chonburi police are checking CCTV nearby for further potential legal action with other people involved in the accident and to determine liability. They also reportedly detained the original car driver who had suffered a panic attack after they received medical aid.
