Bangkok –
Several groups of ultra-royalists and pro-institution volunteers gathered in front of the Royal Thai Police headquarters in the Pathumwan district of Bangkok this morning, November 20, for a ‘big cleaning’ activity after pro-democracy protesters had painted and sprayed graffiti in the area during their protest on Wednesday night.
Volunteers wearing yellow shirts were seen removing splattered oil colors on signs, walls, and footpaths and erasing graffiti and pictures painted on Rama I road at 9:30 A.M. today with assistance from police officers and cleaning service officers from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)
According to the loyalist supporters, some of the graffiti words contained insensitive language and rude words against police authorities, the Prime Minister and his government, and particularly the royal institution which they said offended them and, according to them, the majority of Thai people.
More royalist volunteers joined the cleaning session at around 11:00 AM. and began covering graffiti and artwork with white colors on the road as well as a bus stop in front of the Royal Thai Police and fence and sidewalk in front of Wat Pathum Wanaram located across from the headquarters.
Masawan Pinsuwan, Director of Pathumwan District Office, told the press that more than 100 BMA authorities had been deployed to wash up the Ratchaprasong intersection and the headquarters area for two days but the cleaning is not yet complete.
