Pattaya-
Officers in Banglamung are preparing for an announced pro-democracy protest at the Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya this afternoon.
The pro-democracy protest planned at the Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya has been going viral in social media.
The Banglamung Police Chief Mr. Amnart Jaroensri told The Pattaya News about the preparations after joining in Thai Police Day ceremonies at the Pattaya City Police Station.
“There will be about 40 officers dispatched to carefully watch the event nearby for any potential problems or legal violations.”
“We believe that officers and the police can handle the protest peacefully with no incidents.”
Meanwhile, the Pattaya City Police Chief Colonel Khemmarin Pitsamai told The Pattaya News, “We are preparing to take care of people’s safety during the protest.”
“Everyone has the right to express their opinion just as we have to do our job for everyone.” He added.
The Pattaya News notes the protest is scheduled for mid afternoon at Bali Hai. Disruptions to travel plans especially by boat could be possible and commuters should be aware of a possibly fluid situation. Gatherings over five people are not illegal outside of Bangkok, however, law enforcement stated that laws must still be followed. Protesters have stressed on social media they are peaceful.
