With the program officially approved, in principle, by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration yesterday and the Thai Cabinet set to debate and announce more proposals this afternoon, popular tourist areas such as Koh Samui and Pattaya have begun to hold meetings on Alternative State Quarantine centers for foreigners on the program and precautions that will be taken.
In Pattaya, a proposed Quarantine center will be the Avani hotel, located near the Royal Garden shopping mall. Those on quarantine would be strictly monitored and not allowed to mingle with the general public or go to public places.
The Pattaya News notes that some Thai residents have already shown concerns on social media about the program and reservations about having foreign tourists having quarantine in Pattaya but Pattaya City has had more State Quarantines for Thai nationals than any other city in Thailand, with over fourteen hotels serving tens of thousands of Thai nationals on quarantine for the past several months and no breaches or incidents. Chonburi officials stressed they had experience with the process and there would be no breaches with foreign visitors either.
Guidelines and standards are still being developed and will be submitted to Kanyapha Mukda, director of Disease Control at the Chonburi Communicable Disease Panel for final approval for the program, as noted at the meeting.
