Up to seventy percent of people have let down their guard around Covid-19 measures, according to the Thai Government

The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported earlier this week that up to seventy percent of people had let down their guard in regards to personal hygiene, social distancing, mask wearing and other measures meant to help stop the potential spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus in Thailand.

Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, the spokesman for the CCSA, stated that in recent surveys done by the Department of Public Health that although business owners that had been allowed to re-open were complying overall to measures and passing inspections that individuals had let their guard down across the Kingdom of Thailand.

He stated that social distancing practices had seriously faltered on an individual scale, with people holding larger gatherings and not washing their hands as often.

He also stated that mask wearing was dropping significantly across the country and many people were “half complying” by wearing a mask around their neck or improperly.

Dr. Taweesin also stated that many people were entering incorrect or untruthful contact tracing information on forms, which if there was an actual case of Covid-19 they would be unable to contact them and their health and those of their loved ones could be at risk.

Dr. Taweesin feared that if too many people let their guard down that possible asymptomatic carriers of the virus could cause an outbreak and damage the significant work the country and CCSA has done, even potentially delaying opening high risk businesses or having to resort to restrictive measures overall once again.

He did state that business compliance with the measures, such as telling customers to use the Covid-19 tracing program to check into venues and mask requirements was very successful overall. His major concern was outside of business venues and in people’s daily lives.
