Pattaya —

A female food delivery driver narrowly escaped death after falling into a construction hole in Pattaya on the night of June 30th.

The harrowing incident occurred yesterday at 8:00 PM on Soi Phatthanakan 9 in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Rescue workers immediately responded to the scene after being notified of a motorcyclist falling into a deep construction hole in the alley which is currently undergoing road excavation.

At the scene, rescue workers found a large crowd of bystanders gathered around the 1.5-meter-deep hole. They then found a red Yamaha NMAX 155 motorcycle, which had plunged into the hole, sustaining severe damage.

According to local media reports, the incident scene was fairly dark with little street lighting. There were only barriers and a few traffic cones around the hole, which had been dug up for a large drainage pipe project.

Ms. Nattanicha Owat, a 28-year-old food delivery rider who was riding the motorcycle, sustained only minor injuries to her neck and toes. She recounted the accident, saying that she was heading home after finishing her deliveries when the weather turned foul and started to drizzle.

Upon reaching the accident site, Ms. Nattanicha said she failed to notice the hole due to the lack of warning signs and illumination. She collided with a barrier and fell into the hole along with her motorcycle.

Fortunately, she was wearing a helmet, which likely saved her from severe head injuries. Ms. Nattanicha expressed her anger, saying she didn’t know who to hold accountable and announced that she would file a complaint against the project contractor.

Nearby residents informed local reporters that similar incidents had occurred 2-3 times in the area in June. Residents already had filed complaints with Nongprue Municipality, but the only response they received was that it was not the municipality’s project and that concerned citizens should contact the contractor instead with complaints.

Local residents urged the project owner or relevant authorities to address the issue seriously to prevent future accidents.
