A Singaporean tourist crashed his sedan into a pickup truck in Pattaya, injuring over 12 passengers in the truck.
The collision occurred on Jomtien Beach Road in Pattaya at 12:36 AM on June 13th, 2024. Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after receiving a report of the accident. They found a modified Nissan Frontier pickup truck, carrying 12 government officials and village health volunteers from Phichit province, that had collided with a white Honda Civic sedan driven by Mr. Zheng Xiong, a 26-year-old Singaporean tourist.
The impact caused significant damage to the front of the pickup truck and minor injuries to all passengers. Nine passengers sustained abrasions, head injuries, and pain. Mr. Xiong, the driver of the sedan, was also injured. Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before transporting all the victims to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
According to the pickup truck driver, Mr. Ekkachai Suksomwai, 62, he was transporting the group of officials to their Jomtien hotel after a study tour in Pattaya when the sedan, which he claimed was speeding, abruptly crossed the lane and collided with his vehicle. Mr. Ekkachai himself did not sustain any injuries because according to him he was wearing the amulet of Luang Phor Ngern of Wat Bang Khlan, which he said had protective power.
Pattaya police collected evidence from the scene and will be conducting alcohol tests on both drivers to determine the cause of the crash.
