Chonburi —

A 13-year-old boy died after his motorbike crashed into a pickup truck that made a sudden U-turn in front of him in Chonburi on June 11th, 2024.

At 7:30 AM, Samet police were notified of a fatal accident on Sukhumvit-Ang Sila Road in front of the Uam Rak Animal Hospital, Samet sub-district, Mueang district, Chonburi province. Police officers arrived at the scene along with the paramedic team from Chonburi Hospital and the Tri Khuntam Rescue Foundation.

Authorities found the body of the victim, a 13-year-old Mattayom 2 student (name withheld) at a local school, deceased on the road. He had a broken neck, fractured ribs, arms, and legs, and tire tracks on his body. Nearby, a black Isuzu D-Max pickup truck with a Bangkok license plate was found with damage to the right door.

In the middle of the road, the victim’s white Yamaha motorcycle was found completely wrecked.

According to eyewitnesses, the black D-Max pickup truck was traveling from Sukhumvit towards Ang Sila, while the motorcycle rider was traveling in the same direction.

The eyewitnesses said the D-Max pickup truck attempted to make a U-turn and cut off the boy, causing his vehicle to collide with the side of the door and fall to the opposite side of the road. Another pickup truck then collided with the boy, resulting in his demise.

As of press time, Samet police have not yet concluded who hit whom or who is at fault. However, they will be investigating the so far unidentified drivers of both pickup trucks and review CCTV footage again to take further legal action.

The Pattaya News notes that it is not legal for a 13-year-old to legally operate a motorbike in Thailand or obtain a license, registration, or insurance.
