Chachoengsao—
On May 18th, 2024, Mr. Atthaphon Charoenchansa, the Director-general of the Thai National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Department, publicly revealed an update on a case of a tiger cub on the loose in Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao.
According to Atthaphon, the owner of the tiger cub reportedly admitted that there was no liger as he/she previously told the National Park officers. The farm only had tiger and lion cubs in care.
The National Park officers planned to file a report to hold the owner of the tiger cub accountable for their crimes of releasing a protected wild animal, the tiger cub, free from the owner’s care, possessing a protected animal without a legal permit, and other related offenses, according to Atthaphon.
Atthaphon further added that tigers and lions, protected animals, are under a CITES list that the National Park Department must supervise regarding importing, exporting, nurturing, and relocating them. However, ligers were not on the CITES list.
The tiger cub recently arrived at Bueng Chawak Wildlife Management Development Center after the owner was ordered to send the cub for further investigation.
It was reported that the healthy cub was a female tiger, aged three to four months, weighing 20.5 kilograms. National Park officers said it was very playful and friendly to humans and had no natural fear of people due to being raised by humans.
