Foreign Company Discusses Building International Chinese School in Pattaya

Pattaya —

Pattaya Mayor Mr. Poramase Ngampiches welcomed representatives from AKD International Inc. of Canada to discuss the potential establishment of an international Chinese school in the city.

The meeting took place at Pattaya City Hall on the evening of May 13th, 2024.

AKD International Inc. of Canada is an educational institution founded in 1994 with headquarters in Toronto, Canada. Currently, the company owns and operates 28 schools and 2 universities in China, with over 10,000 students and 30,000 graduates.

According to the city’s announcement, the company has recognized Pattaya’s status as a global tourist destination and seen its educational potential.

Therefore, the company sent its representatives to discuss its interest in establishing a high-school international Chinese school in the city with the mayor. The school aims to attract students from China while also welcoming Thai and international students.

Mayor Mr. Poramase expressed his gratitude to AKD International Inc. of Canada for recognizing Pattaya’s strengths as a major tourist destination and an educational hub. He also acknowledged the company’s interest in selecting Pattaya as the location for the proposed international school.

However, the mayor emphasized that establishing a new school, as opposed to a takeover, requires a clear educational model and curriculum. While Pattaya does not have the authority to directly grant permission for school construction, the mayor offered guidance to the company’s representatives, suggesting they directly coordinate with the Thai Ministry of Education. Additionally, he recommended the company to seek further advice from the Rugby International School on establishing a large-scale international school in Thailand.
