At 7:15 AM, on April 30th, 2024, Mr. Chakkapan Phewngam, the Deputy Governor of Bangkok, and relevant agencies performed a field inspection to maintain public order and cleanliness at the Lang Suan Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok commercial area.
The Pathumwan officials reportedly inspected the commercial area on Lang Suan Road in what they said was to keep public order and as a result dismantled illegal street stalls. 58 individuals were setting up street stalls on the pavement on Lang Suan Road when officials arrived.
According to Thai national media, the Pathumwan officials had previously held a meeting to explain the legal regulations to mark the importance of public order to the street stall vendors. As a result, 13 individuals cooperated with the Pathumwan officials and moved to set up their stalls in private areas, some of them agreed to move to the next Soi, and some of them decided to return to their hometowns.
After the inspection, Pathumwan officials and relevant agencies restored the commercial area, removed obstacles, cleared the pavement on Lang Suan Road, and enacted a sign to warn street stall vendors of the regulations.
The Deputy Governor of Bangkok publicly revealed that the Pathumwan District Office was assigned to work proactively to keep the public areas clean and in order. Furthermore, street vendors in Pathumwan were asked not to obstruct the pavement with their stalls and had to keep their stalls in designated areas only.
The Pathumwan officials were considering relocating some stalls to another area so that street vendors and pedestrians could use the pavement together with convenience and safety.
Furthermore, the Pathumwan District Office announced that street vendors are prohibited from cooking and selling products on the pavement or in public areas under the Maintaining Cleanliness and Orderliness of the Country Act 1992. Those who violated the regulations and laws would face a fine not exceeding 2,000 baht effective as of April 30th, 2024.
