On April 24th, 2024, Pol. Lt. Gen. Panurat Lakboon, the Secretary-General of the Office of the Thai Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), and relevant agencies held an operation of destruction of illegal narcotics and seized illicit substances with a total weight of 22 tonnes from 68 cases.
The illicit substances included 17,806.87 kilograms of amphetamine, 2,871.77 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1,371.42 kilograms of ketamine, and 41.16 kilograms of heroin. The destruction of seized illicit substances was done using a hazardous waste incinerator with a temperature higher than 1,200 degrees Celsius of natural gas.
The process was able to completely destroy the illicit substances without causing negative impacts to the environment, according to Thai national media.
Previously, ONCB officers reportedly inspected the property in dispute and had police guards stationed for 24 hours during their transportation to a private company to destroy the illicit substances in Samut Prakan.
After the incineration, the officers would further inspect the remains of the property in dispute according to legal processing.
Within a year, three major operations had incarcerated illicit substances with a total weight of 387 tonnes with transparency and inspectable processing, according to the Secretary-General of the ONCB.
