Off-Duty Jomtien City Worker Prevents Potential Fire Hazard

Pattaya —

A quick-thinking city worker in Jomtien, Pattaya, prevented a potential disaster when he used a fire extinguisher to stop a blaze that broke out on overhead cables on Monday, April 22nd, 2024.

The incident occurred in the evening on Soi 16 in Central Pattaya. Mr. Chalatorn Moryathai, a city worker for the Jomtien district, was working a part-time job as a motorcycle taxi driver when he heard shouts from nearby residents. Upon further investigation, he discovered flames engulfing communication cables five meters above the ground. Mr. Chalatorn immediately sprang into action out of concerns that the fire could spread to nearby air conditioning compressors and cause an explosion.

Mr. Chalatorn grabbed a fire extinguisher from a nearby resident and attempted to put out the flames. However, the extinguisher’s pressure was not enough to reach the blaze, so he rushed to the second floor of a building adjacent to the burning cables. He then climbed onto the window ledge and successfully extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby homes.

Mr. Chalatorn received overwhelming praise from the public. He was mainly praised for his selflessness even though he was off-duty and working a part-time job at the time. The hardworking Good Samaritan credited his actions to his six years of training and the dedication to public safety instilled in him as a city worker.

His supervisor Sergeant-Major Sawate Peumpool praised Mr. Chalatorn for his exemplary service. He revealed that Mr. Chalatorn is part of the Jomtien district public safety team consisting of 31 officers. They are responsible for maintaining safety within their designated areas.

As per the policy of Pattaya City Mayor Mr. Poramase Ngampiches, the team undergoes refresher training every year and is instilled with the value of assisting those in need, regardless of whether they are on duty or not.
