Two Young Pattaya Girls Get into Motorbike Accident While Volunteering to Drive Blind Person Home

Pattaya —

Two public-spirited female teenagers and one blind person were injured when their motorbike was struck by a minivan on a Pattaya road early Monday morning, April 22nd, 2024.

The accident occurred at 2:36 AM in front of Pattaya School 7 on the inbound lane heading towards Sattahip. Local rescue workers urgently traveled to the scene to discover a Honda Scoopy I motorcycle carrying three people had been struck by a white minivan.

The motorcycle driver, identified as 18-year-old Ms. Chalin Konrad, sustained minor abrasions to her body. The passenger, Ms. Chanyanuch Thanusorn, a 48-year-old blind person, suffered a large head wound. The third person on the motorcycle, a 17-year-old girl whose name was not released due to her age, also sustained abrasions. Ms. Chalin and the 17-year-old girl were friends.

Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before transporting the three injured people to a nearby hospital. The van driver, Mr. Woraphong Lueangektrakul, 50, remained at the scene and cooperated with Pattaya police. He was uninjured, but his car was slightly damaged on the left side.

According to Ms. Chalin, she and her friend were on their way to Jomtien when they saw Ms. Chanyanuch, a blind woman, walking beside the road, asking for a ride to Jomtien. They offered to give her a free ride, and as they were crossing the intersection at a green light, they were struck by the allegedly speeding van.

Mr. Woraphong, however, said that he was driving normally along Sukhumvit Road when he suddenly saw the motorcycle crossing the intersection in front of him. He tried to swerv to avoid the collision but was unable to do so completely. Luckily, the collision did not cause serious life threatening injuries to the victims, Mr. Woraphong noted.

Pattaya police are investigating the accident and will review CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause.
