At 5:30 PM, on April 18th, 2024, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the acting commissioner general of the Royal Thai Police, publicly revealed the suspension of Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakparn after the investigative committee deliberated that he was guilty.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat received a report from investigative police regarding the police investigation of Pol. Gen. Surachet and four other police officers who were involved in online gambling networks and money laundering.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat officially deliberated the case under the Royal Thai Police Act, Section 131, that Pol. Gen. Surachet and four other police officers were allegedly guilty and the investigative committee was assigned to investigate the case according to Royal Thai Police Act.
It was estimated that the investigation from the committee would not be complete soon. Pol. Gen. Kittirat, therefore, suspended Pol. Gen. Surachet and four other police officers from government services effective on April 18th following Police Commission regulations and Royal Thai Police Act within 270 days.
However, Pol. Gen. Surachet had the right to submit an appeal according to the normal procedures. The Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin must receive a report following the procedures as he previously issued an order to Pol. Gen. Surachet to temporarily perform his normal duties at the Government House.
The Thai Prime Minister recently issued a new order to transfer Pol. Gen. Surachet to the Royal Thai Police according to regulations.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat, as the acting commissioner general of the Royal Thai Police, asserted without worry that everything had been done according to regulations.
Pol. General Surachet has continued to say he is innocent and the accusations are politically motivated and untrue.
