At 10:00 AM, on April 17th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin welcomed an official visit to Thailand from the New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon at the Thai Government House.
According to Thai national media, Srettha and Christopher, together with private and public sectors discussed various topics before signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The topics in discussion during the conference between the Thai and New Zealand governments were as follows.
1. Announcement of the strategic goal of elevating the relationship between Thailand and New Zealand to a strategic partnership in 2026.
2. Announcement of the progress of the New Zealand-Thailand Ministries regarding a Defense Cooperation Plan.
3. Announcement of the goal to triple bilateral trade value by 2045.
4. Promotion of cooperation in renewable energy to reduce fossil fuel usage and address climate change.
5. Accelerating negotiations on cultural cooperation agreements.
6. Cooperation in education and tourism promotions to enhance people-to-people relationships.
7. Regional cooperation, particularly within the ASEAN framework of the Irrawaddy-Chao Phraya-Mekong rivers through economic strategic cooperation institutions for development.
8. Discussions on regional and international issues, such as the Myanmar civil war, the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and disputes in the South China Sea.
