Cheeky Monkey Steals Corn From Jomtien Ramen Restaurant

Jomtien —

A macaque monkey, known locally as “Jao Jo,” snuck into the kitchen of a ramen restaurant in Jomtien and grabbed a piece of corn before escaping onto a power line.

The funny video of the incident can be seen here on our YouTube channel.

Jao Jo has become notorious in the Jomtien area for his thieving habits. Some locals have even given him a title, “Jao Jo, the Jomtien Menace,” after he repeatedly stole food and goods from locals and tourists. He often climbed up a power pole after committing his fearless thievery to eat his stolen snacks in peace and out of human reach.

On April 10th, 2024, The Pattaya News reporters visited the ramen restaurant, “Street Ramen,” located on Jomtien Road opposite the D Varee Jomtien Hotel in Banglamung district, Chonburi province. This restaurant is a regular target of Jao Jo’s thieving antics, said Mr. Thepporn Suttirattanaphirak, the Food and Beverage Manager at Street Ramen.

Mr. Thepporn went on to say that the monkey often comes to the restaurant to steal fruit, food, and drinks from the kitchen area. Sometimes, he even steals food from tourists who are dining at the restaurant. Although he does not attack anyone, this has caused fear and anxiety among the restaurant staff and tourists, as sometimes Jao Jo even bares his fangs and threatens people aggressively to get food.

Mr. Thepporn and other concerned locals are asking the city to take responsibility for this problem and capture the monkey. They want Jao Jo to be relocated to a more suitable place to prevent further disturbances or possible physically harmful incidents.
