At 9:35 AM, on April 9th, 2024, Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the Thai Tourism and Sports Minister, stated to the public regarding confusion among foreigners at the start of the Songkran Festival.
The Tourism and Sports Minister publicly revealed that in April starting from the 1st to the 21st, Songkran events would be held across Thailand. However, the water playing events would only occur for a certain period depending on the provinces and cities.
To clarify the confusion among Thai and foreign tourists, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) joined forces to promote and list the events nationwide on a calendar on the TAT official website.
Sudawan reportedly revealed that accommodation bookings were up to 80% nationwide. It was considered good news, remarked Sudawan.
At Sanam Luang, Bangkok, there would be a Songkran special event, parades, drone display, concerts, and many more from April 11th to 15th, said Sudawan.
Another interesting event would be held at ICONSIAM, Bangkok, under the title of THAICONIC SONGKRAN CELEBRATION from April 10th to the 21st. There would be Thai famous artists and entertainment activities from MEAN, PROXIE, 4EVE, ATLAS, BUS, and LYKN, noted TPN.
Phuket and Bangkok, two of our main coverage areas, will celebrate mainly from the 13th-15th. Pattaya, however, has its main day on April 19th and has as of press time already started water fighting in some areas, with the fights gradually expanding until the city wide event on the 18th in Naklua and 19th in Pattaya.
