Pattaya Police Stop Suspicious Motorcyclist, Find Drugs and Gun

Pattaya —

Pattaya police arrested a Thai motorcyclist whom they decided to pull over due to his suspicious demeanor. However, the suspect fled but was later arrested with illegal drugs and a gun.

On April 6th, 2024, a team of police officers from the Banglamung Police Station conducted a safety patrol in the Soi Khao Talo area of Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

During the patrol, the officers spotted a man acting suspiciously while riding a Honda Wave motorcycle. When police attempted to pull him over, he fled on his motorbike.

The officers chased the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Mr. Thirasak Prungthongdee, to a nearby apartment building on Soi Ban Noen Railway 2. Mr. Thirasak then abandoned his motorcycle and ran to the second floor of the building. However, as he tried to open a door, the officers caught up to him and arrested him.

The police searched Mr. Thirasak’s body and found two bags containing 13 orange methamphetamine pills stamped with the letter “WY” hidden in his right jeans pocket. He was also holding five bags of crystal methamphetamine weighing about 1.77 grams. A subsequent urine test confirmed that Mr. Thirasak was also under the influence of methamphetamine.

Police ordered Mr. Thirasak to take them to his room where they uncovered a homemade pen gun with three rounds of ammunition of unknown caliber lying on the floor next to the bed. Mr. Thirasak confessed to owning the gun and said he was on his way to visit his girlfriend at the apartment. He escaped because he feared the police, which is also what drew attention to him.

Mr. Thirasak was charged with five offenses, including possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, carrying a firearm in a public place without a license, possession of Category 1 illegal drugs, using Category 1 illegal drugs, and driving a motorcycle under the influence of Category 1 illegal drugs.

He was taken into custody at the Banglamung Police Station.
