Gunfire Erupts Near Pattaya Walking Street, Women Assaulted

Pattaya —

Two Thai women filed a complaint to Pattaya police after being allegedly assaulted and threatened with a gun by a group of teenagers near Pattaya Walking Street last weekend. The group also fired a gun on the street, terrifying tourists, the victims said.

On April 8th, 2024, Ms. A (pseudonym), 31 years old, and Ms. B (pseudonym), 25 years old, took their plight to local media, asking anyone to help track down a group of teenagers who reportedly attacked them near Pattaya Walking Street.

Ms. A said that the incident occurred at 5:00 AM on April 6th. She and her sister, Ms. B, were returning from Walking Street to a parking lot when they noticed a large group of teenagers gathered and talking as if they were about to fight. Their motorcycle was parked nearby, so Ms. A told the teenagers, “Excuse me, can I get my motorcycle please?” Ms. A, who was drunk, then told her sister that she didn’t care who was fighting, she just wanted to go home.

According to Ms. A, the teenagers likely overheard her conversation with her sister, so they started arguing with her. One woman then grabbed her hair and started slapping and kicking her. Another man also reportedly attacked her.

Ms. A’s boyfriend arrived and waied the group in an attempt to calm the situation. However, Ms. A said she was in pain and angry after getting assaulted, so she shouted at the teenagers, “Why did you attack me?” This enraged the group even more, and a large man then allegedly pulled out a gun and fired it into the air. He shouted, “Who hit my wife?” This terrified Ms. A and other tourists in the area, who ran for cover.

Ms. A immediately filed a complaint with the Pattaya Police Station, but the perpetrators had already dispersed.

Ms. A provided CCTV footage, which captured the incident, to local media but no audio was recorded. According to the recording, Ms. A and Ms. B tried to get their motorcycle out of the parking lot, but the group of teenagers, both men and women, blocked their way. One woman then grabbed Ms. A by the head and a brawl ensued. The attackers hit the victim twice. Soon after, a tall man, about 165-170 centimeters tall, wearing a black jacket, pulled out a handgun and fired it into the air, scaring the tourists who were walking in the area and causing them to run for their lives.

Ms. A said this incident was a brazen act of violence that showed no regard for the law. It also damaged the image of Pattaya as a world-class tourist destination.

The victim urged the authorities to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. She also pleaded with any people who witnessed the incident to report any useful information about the suspects to the police.
