The Thai Immigration Police Bureau (IBP) announced the arrest of two foreign fugitives, a South Korean and a Taiwanese national, wanted for alleged fraud in their home country. The arrest was made in Pattaya and Bangkok.

The first fugitive, identified only as Mr. Oh (alias), a 51-year-old South Korean national, was arrested at a condominium in Nongprue, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Mr. Oh was wanted by the South Korean authorities for accusations of fraud. He was allegedly the leader of a call center gang based in China that targeted victims in South Korea. The gang would call or text victims and coax them into transferring money to the gang.

In a two-week period, the gang was reportedly able to defraud six victims out of a total of 200 million won. After the South Korean authorities issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Oh, he allegedly fled to Thailand and hid in Pattaya.

The IBP received information from the Foreign Affairs Division of the Royal Thai Police about Mr. Oh’s whereabouts. After an investigation, the IBP was able to locate and arrest Mr. Oh. He was also charged with overstaying his legal visa and is currently being held at the Pattaya Police Station.

The second fugitive, identified only as Mrs. Meilee (alias), a 66-year-old Taiwanese national, was arrested at a luxury condominium in Sukhumvit, Bangkok.

Mrs. Meilee was wanted by the Taiwanese authorities for alleged fraud. She was allegedly involved in a scam that lured Taiwanese investors to invest in real estate in Thailand. The scam resulted in 88 victims losing a total of over 608 million baht, said relevant law enforcement agencies.

The IBP received information from the Department of Investigation of the Ministry of Justice of Taiwan about Mrs. Meilee’s whereabouts. After an investigation, the IBP was able to locate and arrest Mrs. Meilee. She was also found to have used a fake Thai ID, said the IBP.

Mrs. Meilee was also charged with overstaying her legal visa and is currently being held at the IBP’s Immigration Division 3.
