Viral Video Shows Murky Water Flowing into Na Jomtien Beach

Sattahip, Chonburi —

In a recent Facebook video, which was posted on Wednesday, March 27th, murky water was seen being discharged into Na Jomtien Beach, sparking widespread criticism and attention from relevant authorities.

The video, which was first published by the page “We Love Pattaya,” and can be seen by tapping or clicking HERE depicted a drainage pipe releasing dark-colored water into the sea near Soi Na Jomtien 8. The viral clip triggered outrage, with Facebook users suspecting that the water might be wastewater and could potentially pose health risks to swimmers.

In response to the concerns, Na Jomtien authorities conducted an on-site inspection in the evening of the same day. They visited the drainage pipe in question and used a backhoe to cover the drainage pipe outlet with sand on the beach. However, a large amount of debris was still observed on the shore.

According to Mr. Punyarat Thaneerom, Director of the Engineering Division at the Na Jomtien Sub-district Municipality, the water seen in the video was actually an overflow from a nearby retention pond that was overwhelmed by the heavy rainfall.

Mr. Punyarat explained that water from various sources typically converges into public retention ponds or pumping stations before treatment and discharge. Unfortunately, the excessive water flow caused damage to the treatment system, resulting in the overflow of untreated water seen in the video.

The Na Jomtien Municipality apologized for the incident.
