Pattaya —

Pattaya City officials are investigating sources of pollution in the Naklua canal following complaints from residents.

According to reports, residents submitted video clips to Pattaya City showing the canal’s water full of garbage, polluted water, and dead fish. Some citizens claimed that these toxic substances entered the canal via runoffs from industrial estates close by.

In response, Mr. Manoch Nongyai, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, led a team to the area on Wednesday, March 27th. They intended to discuss the issue with business operators and find solutions.

According to them, the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) level of the canal’s water remained within standard limits. However, it was found that some flats nearby occasionally discharged waste-water into the canal especially during heavy rains.

Mr. Manoch then traveled to a nearby flour mill to investigate the complaints. The factory operators insisted that their wastewater treatment procedures fully comply with regulations. They explained that their wastewater is recycled through the biogas process in order to reduce smell before the water is filtered to improve the quality.

Mr. Manoch revealed that he planned in the future to inspect other canals and upstream areas to prevent wastewater from flowing into the public canals.
