Massive Fire Erupts at Sri Racha Landfill

Sri Racha, Chonburi —

Firefighters in Sri Racha, Chonburi, extinguished a large fire that broke out at a dump site yesterday, March 17th, 2024.

The dump site is located near Sukhumvit Road in the Surasak area. Firefighting personnel from Sriracha Municipality rushed to quell the blaze after receiving the report around 10 AM.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found flames engulfing a large pile of garbage, with smoke billowing into the sky. The presence of significant wood debris in the landfill caused the fire to spread rapidly. Six fire trucks were used to combat the blaze, which took over 30 minutes to bring under control.

According to a local resident, Mr. Jettiphat Somjai, 39, the garbage had been burning for some time and only spread when the fire got to the surrounding wood and leaf debris.

The Sriracha Police Station is currently investigating to determine the exact cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported although the thick smoke could be seen for many kilometres away and alarmed multiple residents.
