A video of the incident can be seen here on our YouTube.
The incident occurred around 11:00 PM as popular Thai rock band Bodyslam was preparing to take the stage at Jomtien Beach.
According to reports, a man, believed to be in his 30’s, caused chaos by throwing a backpack at the backstage area of the festival and then fleeing towards the artist area. Multiple festival staff, security personnel, and police officers immediately chased after him to prevent him from causing potential harm to both the artists and the festival attendees.
Fortunately, Bodyslam lead singer “Toon,” who also witnessed the incident, proceeded with the performance without any disruption. Meanwhile, police officers eventually apprehended the suspect, who displayed erratic behavior and spoke incoherently, according to police.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit quickly inspected the backpack but only found clothing and nothing suspicious. The man was taken to the Pattaya Police Station for identification and questioning as to why he threw the backpack.
Police speculated the man may have been homeless and mentally ill but were investigating further.
