Chinese Tourist Claims Pattaya Woman Stole His Credit Card to Buy Gold

Pattaya —

A Chinese tourist alleged that a Thai woman in Pattaya stole his credit card and used it to purchase gold jewelry before she later disappeared.

The incident first gained traction on social media after a famous Facebook page posted a photo with a claim that an unidentified Thai woman stole a credit card from a Chinese tourist and used it to buy gold jewelry for herself.

The tourist, identified as 33-year-old Mr. Mu Dihui Wu Dihui, reported the incident to Banglamung Police Station on March 13th. According to his report, he met the suspect through a dating application several days prior and was invited to Pattaya. While staying together, Mr. Wu Dihui alleged the woman stole his credit card while he was asleep and used it to purchase two gold necklaces for a total of 32,815 baht. She vanished, being unable to be contacted by the tourist.

Local media interviewed the gold shop owner involved. They found from CCTV that a Thai woman entered the shop and swiped a credit card to purchase two gold chains. The owner stated the woman seemed normal, and there was no indication the card was stolen.

The shop owner also clarified that the credit card used was a Visa card without a signature on the back, which allows for purchases without the cardholder being present.

The investigation is ongoing as police attempt to locate the woman and verify the details of the incident.

The name of the suspect was withheld by police pending further investigation as of press time.
