Rangers Confront Wanted Criminals in Pattani; Two Suspects Extrajudicially Killed

Pattani—

At 5:00 AM, on March 14th, 2024, more than 50 Southern Border Provinces Rangers enclosed around a rental house in Sai Buri, Pattani, as wanted criminals were spotted by locals.

The officers blocked the Pattani-Narathiwat Road to prevent locals from being harmed in case of confronting a group of suspects.

At 7:00 AM, the officers, religious, and local leaders negotiated with the suspects to surrender, however, the suspects shot at the stationed officers. The officers then became more cautious and secured the area. Having negotiated further with the suspects, the officers were rapidly shot without a sign of surrender by the suspects.

At 7:30 AM, the officers launched a raid to capture the suspects, however, it was found out that the suspects went into hiding in the ceiling of the home. The officers then retreated to make a new plan before having another confrontation with the suspects. As a result, one of the suspects was extrajudicially shot dead and fell from the ceiling.

At 8:00 AM, the officers deployed a drone to track down another suspect before having one last confrontation with the sole suspect who was later extrajudicially killed.

Initially, the suspects were identified as Mr. Hamdi Salo and Mr. Rachit Mayuso according to arrest warrants.

According to the officers, it was believed that the suspects lurked in the area in an attempt to commit a terrorist act during Ramadan. However, the locals reported to the officers before the tragedy occurred.

The crimes they were wanted for were not immediately clarified by police or how the men were known by local residents.
