Mae Hong Son—
On March 7th, 2024, Singhanat Special Taskforce officers intercepted drug smuggling from Myanmar to the Thai border in Pai, Mae Hong Son. As a result, 35 rucksacks containing 7 million pills of amphetamine and 100 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized.
According to the Commander of the Special Taskforce Singhanat Col. Wanchai Maneewan, there was a report from an anonymous source reporting a group of drug smugglers, calling themselves the United Wa State Army (UWSA), and a Muser hill tribe group attempting to smuggle illicit substances from Myanmar to the Thai border.
In response to the report, Singhanat Special Taskforce officers were dispatched to the reported area in Ban Pai Song Ngaeng, Pai, Mae Hong Son. The patrol units found suspicious rucksacks piled on the ground in a wooded grove. The Special Taskforce officers then seized the property in dispute containing 7 million amphetamine pills and 100 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The illicit substances were later transported via helicopter to the Singhanat Special Taskforce Department at the Mon Talang military base, Mueangl, Mae Hong Son. There was no suspect detained in the incident.
The relevant agencies would investigate further to ensure that the Thai border would be clear of illicit substances, according to officials.
