Thai Private Sector Has Big Financial Goals for Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024

On March 7th, 2024, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) President Thanawat Phonwichai publicly revealed the expected spending amount during the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024 from April 1st to the 21st, with a total estimated amount of 130 billion baht.

During the Songkran Festival, more than 130 billion baht would be estimated to be spent. The World Water Festival 2024, the Thai government and relevant agencies were set to stimulate this spending throughout the consecutive 21 Songkran holidays nationwide, said Thanawat.

However, it also depended on the world economic situation whether foreign tourists would be concerned about leisurely spending and traveling during the Songkran Festival, remarked Thanawat.

Previously, Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the Thai Tourism and Sports Minister, publicly revealed that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) accelerated its promotion to attract European tourists for the World Water Festival 2024.

The Thai government aspired Thai cultural and traditional festivals to be recognized on the world stage and be listed in the top 10 global festivals under the name of Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024, said Sudawan.

The Maha Songkran Festival aimed to hold Songkran Parades in 16 target provinces and 11 soft power industries including foods, sports, festivals, tourism, music, books, films, games, art, design, fashion, and Thai traditional shows would participate, according to Sudawan.

Furthermore, each region in Thailand would have different variations regarding local identities, said Sudawan.
