Tragic Accident in Khao Khitchakut National Park, Chanthaburi: One Thai Casualty and Nine Injured, Including Three Russian Tourists


On February 29th, 2024, Thai national media reported a service pickup truck carrying pilgrims overturned in Khao Khitchakut National Park, Chanthaburi, resulting in one Thai national casualty and nine injuries including three Russian tourists.

Khao Khitchakut police officers received a report of a pickup truck accident carrying pilgrims to the peak of Khao Khitchakut National Park at 9:40 AM. The truck had the accident after allegedly speeding at a curve 600 meters away from a national park checkpoint, causing the truck to overturn.

The local emergency services were dispatched to the accident scene to aid the wounded and transferred them to local hospitals. According to the police report, there was one Thai casualty and nine other pilgrims suffered injuries including three Russian tourists.

However, Khao Khitchakut was open for pilgrims to worship the pilgrimage route at the peak from February 10th to April 9th, 2024.

The pilgrimage route at Khao Khitchakut, Chanthaburi, was popular among Thai and foreign tourists to challenge themselves to the peak of Khao (mt.) Khitchakut with a total distance of eight kilometers, 6.8 kilometers by service pickup trucks, and 1.2 kilometers on foot.
