On February 26th, 2024, Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong, the Deputy National Police Chief, and relevant agencies held a press conference on the case progress of a foreigner found dead at an abandoned building near Suvarnabhumi Airport, Samut Prakan.
According to the police report, the body of a Taiwanese person, publicly identified as Mr. Shih Mou Chiang, 43, was a fugitive wanted for robbery and firearm possession offenses. It was reported that Chiang crossed the Thai border illegally through a natural channel.
Khok Kram police officers performed an investigation at the crime scene and interrogated locals to gather evidence on the case. Useful information was given which made the case progress well. Upon further police investigation, it was found out that five suspects were involved in the murder including four Taiwanese people and one Thai woman.
However, all five of them fled to Cambodia via Aranyaprathet Immigration Checkpoint as the group hired a Thai van driver. The Thai police requested collaboration with Cambodian authorities to help track down the suspects.
The Thai police asserted that they had potential evidence to hold the five accountable for their crimes, however, whether the victim was linked to a phone scam operator would have to be investigated further.
On February 27th, Thai police were able to identify the Thai woman whose name was publicly revealed as Ms. Piyanuch Thammarat, 23, who allegedly moved the body to the abandoned building.
Additionally, the police discovered the residence of Piyanuch and found 500 grams of Ketamine. The police reported that Piyanuch allegedly attempted to destroy all evidence that might link them with chemical products.
One of the Taiwanese suspects reportedly has now fled to Taiwan and Thai police requested the Taiwanese government to track down the suspect and the rest were believed to still be in Cambodia.
The van driver was also being held in custody for further interrogation in whether he was involved in the case or not. The police pledged to investigate further to track down all the suspects and determine the exact motive behind the horrific crime.
