Pattaya Tourist Police arrested a Thai man for theft and possessing illegal drugs.
The suspect, Mr. Sayan Chantawong, 44, was arrested on charges of theft and illegal possession of methamphetamine on February 25th, 2024, while he was walking near Thappraya Road. The arrest stemmed from an incident on February 22nd, when a nightclub owner reported his laptop, sound system, and other equipment stolen in Soi Jomtien 1.
Following the report, officers from the Tourist Police Division 2 launched an investigation and identified Mr. Sayan, a resident of Udon Thani, as a suspect based on the victim’s description. Upon approaching him, officers observed suspicious behavior, prompting them to search his body that resulted in the discovery of illegal drugs.
Mr. Sayan reportedly admitted to possessing and using methamphetamine, with a urine test confirming the presence of the drugs in his system.
During a search of Mr. Sayan’s backpack, officers discovered the stolen items. However, Mr. Sayan denied ownership of the items and claimed he did not know how they got into his bag.
Officers took Mr. Sayan to the scene of the crime, where the victim confirmed the stolen items belonged to him and had been taken around 5:00 PM on February 22nd. Surveillance footage also revealed a man matching Mr. Sayan’s description stealing the equipment.
After informing Mr. Sayan of his rights and charges, officers prepared an arrest record and handed him over, along with the seized items, to Pattaya Police Station for further legal proceedings.
