Pickup Truck Driver Critically Injured in Chonburi Highway Collision

A pickup truck driver sustained critical injuries and four passengers suffered minor injuries in a collision with an 18-wheel trailer on Highway 36 (Pattaya-Rayong) on Saturday, February 24th.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM near the petrol station in the Pong sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi. The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation responded to the scene and found a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck severely damaged at the front, with the driver trapped inside.

Rescue personnel used cutting tools to extricate the driver, identified as 33-year-old Mr. Saharat Srisawat, who was in critical condition. He was rushed to Banglamung Hospital for further medical attention.

Four other passengers in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and received initial care on-site before being transferred to the hospital with Mr. Saharat. The 18-wheel trailer sustained significant damage to its rear. The driver, Mr. Surasak Janhom, 64, was unharmed and remained at the scene.

According to one of the injured passengers, Mr. Preepol Kaewkanjanakool, 29, the pickup truck was traveling in the right lane when the 18-wheeler in the left lane abruptly turned right, causing the collision.

The Nongprue Police Station is investigating the cause of the accident.
