Thailand Welcomes 5 Million Tourists This Year, China Remains Top Source

National —

Thailand’s tourism sector continues to see a consistent flow of international visitors, with over 5 million arrivals recorded between January to February 18th, 2024.

According to Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, the nation welcomed 831,989 international visitors between February 12th and 18th. While this represents a slight 4.61% decrease compared to the previous week, the figures solidify a consistent trend of tourist arrivals, Ms. Sudawan added.

Thailand is welcoming an average of 118,856 visitors daily. Ms. Sudawan revealed that China remains the dominant source of tourists, with 176,088 arrivals during the week. Following closely behind are Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, and India.

Looking at the year-to-date figures, Thailand has already received a total of 5,217,379 international tourists, generating an estimated revenue of around 254.7 billion baht. China continues to lead the pack with nearly one million arrivals (987,941), followed by Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, and India.

Despite the positive trends, challenges remain, particularly in the area of flight availability. To address this, Ms. Sudawan disclosed that discussions are ongoing between Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Thai Airways regarding the potential resumption of Thai Airways flights between Moscow and Bangkok. This initiative aims to accommodate the rising demand from Russian tourists.
