Satun Marine Police Foil Attempted Illegal Fishing: Intercepts 297kg of Cockles in Border Patrol

At 4:30 AM, on February 17th, 2024, Satun Maritime Enforcement Command Center (MECC) launched a marine inspection using a patrol speed boat along the border of Thailand-Malaysia to deter illegal fishing and smuggling.

According to the Satun MECC, at 7:10 AM, an unidentified boat was spotted in Koh Kurab, a tiny island near the Thailand-Malaysia border, and two individuals from Malaysia territory.

The MECC then asked for an inspection of the unidentified boat as they acted suspiciously.

However, the suspects fled and attempted to throw away white sacks containing suspicious objects into the sea. As they went further, they entered muddy territory. The MECC was able to intercept the unidentified boat and confiscated 11 white sacks containing cockles, with a total weight of 297 kilograms.

Consequently, two suspects, whose names and nationality were withheld by the MECC, who were escorted with the property in dispute to Mueang Satun police station for further legal processing.
