At 9:00 AM on February 17th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin gave a brief interview to Thai journalists concerning the parole of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Srettha acknowledged that Thaksin’s release was scheduled for February 18th, in accordance with the judicial process by the Thai Department of Corrections and Police General Hospital. However, the exact time was not disclosed to Srettha, although he believed that everything was in accordance with Thai laws.
Regarding a potential reunion with Thaksin after his release, Srettha reportedly commented that appropriateness needed to be taken into account. Srettha expressed his respect for every former Prime Minister as the Prime Minister of Thailand.
Srettha further mentioned that he had previously sought governmental advice and guidance from Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, the former Thai Prime Minister.
When asked whether Thaksin would be appointed as a member of the government working group, Srettha reportedly stated that it would be intrusive to directly pose such a question to Thaksin, considering his health issues and potential desire for privacy with his family. Srettha emphasized the importance of appropriateness.
Following the interview at Don Mueang Airport, Srettha undertook a mission in Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, and Udon Thani from February 17th to 19th to discuss various topics and address local issues related to tourism, agriculture, industry, and other sectors.
