Pattaya Man Shot to Death Waiting at Traffic Light, Suspect Identified but At Large

Pattaya —

A shooting incident at a North Pattaya traffic light intersection early Wednesday morning left one person dead.

The victim, identified as Mr. Panya Khayanngan, 39, an entertainment establishment guard in Pattaya, was shot multiple times while waiting at the traffic light. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.

The incident transpired around 6:16 AM on January 31st at an intersection in North Pattaya, Naklua sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Pattaya police and rescue personnel arrived at the scene to find Mr. Panya’s overturned motorcycle and his body riddled with bullet wounds.

Police collected from the scene four 9 mm bullet casings and one bullet.

An eyewitness, identified only as Mr. Teoy, reported seeing the assailant approach Mr. Panya, while he was waiting at the traffic light, and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s wife, Ms. Malinee Khayanngan, 34, arrived at the scene distraught and revealed that her husband had been having ongoing issues with a neighbor which escalated to a physical altercation and threats involving firearms two days prior.

According to the latest report, the suspect has been identified as Mr. Prawet Chanthong, 31. Ten police officers surrounded his house in Naklua this morning, but the suspect had already escaped.

Mr. Prawet’s mother, Mrs. Kanya, 57, informed police that her son, a Grab food delivery rider, had a heated conflict with the victim two days prior to the incident. This altercation reportedly resulted in her son being physically assaulted by the deceased and his peers, with the victim’s pet pit bull further adding to his wounds through an alleged bite during the clash.

The exact nature of the dispute remains unclear, but it ultimately escalated to the fatal shooting. Mrs. Kanya has expressed her hope for her son’s surrender and willingness to face legal consequences for his actions.

Police investigations revealed that the victim and suspect were previously friends and resided close to each other. However, their relationship soured in recent months, culminating in physical altercations two days before the shooting.

A manhunt for the suspect is underway.
