Pattaya —

A Thai man tragically drowned at Jomtien Beach on Thursday, January 25th, after he waded into the sea possibly while drunk.

The incident was reported at 4:00 PM, prompting the deployment of a rescue team and Pattaya police. The scene unfolded near the Now Hotel along Jomtien Beach Road in Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Pornchai Raksa, a 56-year-old Thai man, lying on the shore, clad only in shorts. After a preliminary examination and documentation of the scene, authorities were approached by Mr. Pornchai’s younger brother, 52-year-old Mr. Pornthep Raksa. Mr. Pornthep informed officers that he had come to identify his deceased brother’s body.

Speaking to The Pattaya News, Mr. Pornthep revealed that Mr. Pornchai had expressed his desire to go for a swim at Jomtien Beach earlier that day, around 2:00 PM. He further disclosed that Mr. Pornchai had consumed some alcohol before entering the water.

Meanwhile, the unidentified lifeguard at the beach informed the police that they received a notification from local vendors who saw a floating body in the sea. The victim was already dead when the lifeguard reached his body.

The cause of Mr. Pornchai’s drowning remains under investigation, and authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
